I’ve always been very interested in making things and knowing how things work. I love baking because I can put ingredients together to make people’s face light up with the smell of freshly baked bread. I’ve always thought that art was very interesting because you can take a pencil and make something beautiful.

I’ve also always loved old cars – those fifties and sixties cars with the big fenders and the cool brake lights. My parents gave me the opportunity to restore a classic car before I turn 16 and get my license. Our deal was that they would purchase the car, but I had to pay for all of the restorations. I thought that this was pretty great since I was willing to do as many of the repairs myself as possible. This is only slightly hindered by the fact that I know nothing about cars. I figured that this would be a great opportunity to learn as I go!

Our first task was to choose which car to remodel, so my dad sent me this article from Hemings called the “32 Best Cars to Restore”. We needed to choose one that would not too hard for a beginner, and that also had parts readily available. Of the cars they listed, I liked the Bel Air, the Packard, the Mustang, the Falcon, and the Corvair. They are all so cute!
My dad and I did some initial research, and we decided that we both felt comfortable learning more about the 1965 Ford Falcon. We had a long list of questions that we need to get answered. This list included:
  • What kind of engine do we need?
  • What kind of transmission?
  • What do I need to do to make it safe?
  • Can we put an air conditioning in it?
  • Should I get a two-door or four-door?
